Curriculum

Language and early literacy

Montessori children usually write before they read. Sound comes first, then symbol, then the explosion into words.

Sound before symbol

Sound games, vocabulary cards, and conversation build a large spoken vocabulary. Sandpaper letters connect each phoneme to its shape through touch.

The movable alphabet

Children compose words with loose letters long before their hand can form them, removing the physical bottleneck from written expression.

Stories and nature journals

Daily read-alouds, oral storytelling, and dictated nature-journal entries give literacy a reason to exist.
